night skies

http://xkcd.com/617/

9:38 pm, So last night we were sitting here i begin to read this post…

KRGV WeatherTime to see the shuttle again! 9:38pm....face West - it'll show up in front of you and move toward your left (Southwest). Shuttle will be visible for just under two minutes.

I look at the clock on the pc and it reads 9:38.. we go out side and sure enough there is this really fast “star” streaking across the night sky under the moon’s horizon.  cool!  so we go back inside and i read the rest of the post.

Then look west again - and the International Space Station will show up at 9:41 and follow the same path!

and i look back at the clock, 9:41.. we go back outside and another “star” begins moving across the sky.  way cool!

Sorry about the poor audio quality, or the stage noise.

One of the dj's is behind me making new imaging which means i could either listen to it over and over and over.. or put my ipod on shuffle and see what comes up. Not a bad selection actually...

it’s about freaking time..

Of course it's yet to be tested IRL, but it's an improvement.  It's sad that they had to get to PUC and all these politicians involved just to get something fixed.  oh well.. that's the valley for you.

another week in the books

Ever had one of those weeks?  Yup.. that was this past one.  so monday night was like any other.  Nothing out of the ordinary.  I wanted to get to bed early to be rested for a job interview i had on tuesday.  I had a good dinner, went to sleep around 10.   Megan had some friends over and they were up outside in the porch for a while.  around 4 or 5, not sure, patti got up to let the cats out (can’t they wait until the sun’s out?) and discovered that megan’s car was gone.  she checked on megan and she was still here.  after a semi-coherent interrogation patti was able to find out that the car was left in a parking lot on the other side of town.  (mind you, i’m asleep through all this) patti gets up and to the car to put note on it.  So i guess megan’s awake now and hungry.  goes to make some soup and somehow spills the fresh soup over herself.  her foot actually.  she comes crying into our room where i’m still fast asleep.. the lights are out and she’s obviously in pain.  being the guy that i am… i fix the problem, put some burn cream on the foot and shoo her off to bed.  back to sleep.

a few minutes later she’s still up in pain.  i think i was awake enough to ice down her foot this time, and patti showed up shortly after.  she took megan over to the ER and i went back to bed.  so i finally get up and off to the interview.  That ended up going fairly well.  Mostly quizzing.  I was able to leave all their questions answered.  the only major drawback to the job is that it would probably put me back in weslaco, where i’m trying to get closer to mcallen.  Finally get the story on the car.  she must have drive up along a curb.  ended up shreding the tire and messing up the suspension.

wednesday morning patti’s taking hannah to school only to find that her tire is flat.  ok.. so we change the tire.  she goes on to Discount tire, and in her words..

Patti Kohrt Discount Tires on McColl and Trenton fixed my flat tire for free today with the request that I promote them and tell my friends about them. Since most of my friends are on facey-space, I thought I would use this venue. If you need tires or tire services, please go see Josh and the boys over there. Now, two and 1/2 hours later, I am finally on my way to work!

so a new week.. new chances… we’ll see what happens.

vacation recap

The long awaited vacation finally arrived.  Keeping in typical jm fashion, i couldln’t just sit and rest through the entire week.  on monday morning i took hannah and arryn to the beach.  we got to schlitterbhan early just as they opened so had the run of the place most of the morning.  i hadn’t had that much fun in quite a while.  when it started getting really hot we took off in search of food and shade.  taco bell of course was the meal of choice, then we went to the condo to rest for a bit.  after a little while of playing in the sand we went back to the water park to use up the rest of the day.  I had a good time just floating around where ever the current took me.

came back home the next day.  got one of those 100,000 mile health insurance check up things.  Everything came out good.  my LDH was a little low but i’m not going to go start a vegan diet anytime soon.

wednesday worked on a project for church.  Trying to get them ready for the HD conversion, just a few months after the switch over mind you.  If only it was as easy as it is for your home where alll you have to do is buy a new tv or converter.  i’m looking at replacing cameras, signaling, ccu’s robotics, ptz control, master control, audio-pass thru, archiving as well as down converting for the old SD stuff we still have.

thursday another early morning road trip, this time to san antonio.  Hannah and arryn in my car, megan and her friends following behind in their car.  got to san antonio and headed for the at&t center for Warped Tour.  after parking and walking up to the building the line was wraped all along the building, along the side, up to the rear of the building.  ok.. so we probably stood in line for about an hour before we got in.  it was 11 in the morning and at least 105 degrees.  out their.  we got inside finally and it was a very minture version of cornerstone only without tents and dirt and pig water.  the heat index must have been 115, it was standing room only on the parking lot of the att center.  after about an hour i found a cozy spot under a tree with all the other parents.  i don’t know how i used to do this every summer for a week.  while we were sitting there under the tree some guy came by looking for people wating to work some of the stages.  i thought about it for a second, how fun it would be to get to work a stage at warped tour, but the attempt to peel myself from the blacktop and make my body corporate with my intention to stand up was a failed attempt.  i just sat there.  and melted.

it really wasn’t bad.  not exactally any bands i really enjoyed but it wasn’t a bad experience.  i think i had more fun watching the kids and hanging out with them.  remembering was it was like to be that age.  *sigh*

came back home the next day to finally spend some of my vacation with my wife.  she didn’t get to join us, because of work and she can’t handle being in the heat at all.  not the type of vacation she woudl have enjoyed
